This week’s challenge was to pick a color and shoot subjects with just that color. Being a big M. Night Shamalyan fan, I chose red. I thought it would be pretty easy. Going through my son’s toy box yielded lots of subjects, from blocks to cars to his chair and rocking horse. But when I got out of the house, it was harder than I thought. I found most of my subjects in downtown Savannah, starting with my favorite entertainment (and one of Savannah’s best kept secrets), The Savannah Theatre. I tried to grab a photo of a pedicab, but sadly, he was moving faster than I could catch up. I also saw a carriage tour with red adornments and tried to frame the shot, but needed to have the zoom lens. All in all, it was a fun challenge and one I think would be more successful in the springtime, though it feels that way this January...

In one of them, Outdoor Photography, they list 30 projects to challenge your way of thinking about shooting and subjects. I’ve decided to take these as a weekly challenge to see what I can learn about my camera and my shooting style. The challenge this week is “A Day in the Life”: pick an object and photograph it at various times throughout the day to show how it changes with the light, the water, the mood, the environment, etc. It was sunny today but so cold, so I had a hard time getting myself motivated to take the shots.
