Morning with an Old Friend

On Friday, February 3rd, I had the honor to spend the morning with an old friend, Jeff Taylor. I’ve known Jeff and his family almost 12 years now. He is an-all around wonderful guy. This guy never meets a stranger! I’m so happy to be celebrating his 30th wedding anniversary with him and his wonderful wife, Debbie, next weekend, but also wanted to congratulate him on 25 years on the Savannah radio...

Nightime in Savannah

Savannah is a beautiful town, but I have always enjoyed the peace of walking around at night. Lights add a warm glow to favorite landmarks, and calm mood seems to take over as you stroll the streets. I took advantage of trying out my camera settings with a quick stroll between Bull and Abercorn Streets while I awaited the start of Grease. I quickly realized I definitely need to invest in a 12-24 lens to get good shots of the architecture, but I had fun figuring things out as I lie on the ground with tourists guessing if I was drunk or what. Because I thought the lighting was amazing in a few shots, I’m including the color and black and white versions. Tell me which you liked...

A Night at the Theatre

I am never slow to remember what a blessed woman I am, and I count among my blessings the amazing people I have had the privilege to meet. This past Friday, I continued my birthday tradition with a show at The Savannah Theatre. I consider this one of Savannah’s best-kept secrets as I know too few people who have been. Until my son was born, I had never missed a run of any show there, which is why my birthday trip means so much. I decided this would be a great opportunity to try out my zoom lens on my camera as I had a great seat in the balcony (which also reclined and has more leg room than those on the floor). I did not discover until I got home that my camera actually had a “stage lighting” setting. While the photos aren’t poster-worthy, I hope they still convey the entertainment and encourage you to check out a show sometime. Special thanks to Michelle Meece and Shannon Zaller for making my birthday special. You ladies are incredibly talented and beautiful, and I am honored to call you...

Sunday Afternoon in the Country

A long time ago, I took a creative writing class (back when I was sure I was going to be a photojournalist for National Geographic). The instructor said if the first thing you want to do when you wake up in the morning is write, then you should be a writer. My problem was that the first thing I wanted to do in the morning when I woke up was go back to sleep. These days, it’s not much different, except that after I’m up, have my tot fed and dressed, my clothes on, and got the brush through my hair at least a little, I want to grab my camera and go. This afternoon, I most of my son’s naptime while Daddy took to homework, and drove around for an hour. I was actually trying to find an old cemetery we found once a couple years ago. While I didn’t find the cemetery, I did find an old dirt road. And you just never know what you’ll find along an old dirt...

Seeing Red

This week’s challenge was to pick a color and shoot subjects with just that color. Being a big M. Night Shamalyan fan, I chose red. I thought it would be pretty easy. Going through my son’s toy box yielded lots of subjects, from blocks to cars to his chair and rocking horse. But when I got out of the house, it was harder than I thought. I found most of my subjects in downtown Savannah, starting with my favorite entertainment (and one of Savannah’s best kept secrets), The Savannah Theatre. I tried to grab a photo of a pedicab, but sadly, he was moving faster than I could catch up. I also saw a carriage tour with red adornments and tried to frame the shot, but needed to have the zoom lens. All in all, it was a fun challenge and one I think would be more successful in the springtime, though it feels that way this January...

Late Afternoon in Forsyth Park

I usually have an hour and a half to kill between the end of my work day and the start of my night classes. Since it’s too far to go home, I take the time to work on my photography or blog. Yesterday was so nice, I decided to venture down to Forsyth Park and play around with my macro settings. So many flowers in bloom, it looked like springtime. And of course, I couldn’t leave without a few shots of the...
